The Poverty Emotions

Be still for a bit and listen.

200 Issues later, the editor of Money magazine commented “…our money woes are still the same.  Strategies and products have become more sophisticated but our needs really havn’t changed – we still want financial freedom”

WHY DO MOST OF US STILL NOT HAVE FINANCIAL FREEDOM?

WHY DO MOST OF US STILL HAVE DEBT?

WHY DO MOST OF US STILL BATTLE TO MAKE ENDS MEET?

Perhaps it is because we are human beings who are governed by our emotions.

The paralysing emotions of poverty, FEAR, SHAME and ANGER seem to be so incredibly powerful that they tend to make our decisions for us.

These emotions can either make us do what we shouldn’t be doing with our money or they can prevent us from doing what we should be doing with our money.

If we take the time to think about how we experienced money as kids we may just understand :

...why we are the one always rushing to pay for everything when out with friends or family, or

...why we are the one who always 'has' to go to the toilet when it is time to pay the bill, or

...why we feel a bit desperate until we have those particular cushions or those particular shoes, or

...why we think we will feel better or valued or accepted or happier or stronger or more powerful if we just have the latest of that particular thing, or

..why we are the one pounding the pavements to get the latest bargains (even when we really don't need them)

These poverty emotions are so powerful that they continue to grow even if we ignore them.  If we make a conscious (sometimes frightening and always difficult) decision to confront these emotions, we can make huge changes, not only in our financial lives but in every aspect of our lives.

Let’s not allow our children to be governed by these monsters.  These poverty emotions are the obstacles to wealth – financial and other.

LET’S GIVE OUR CHILDREN A FINANCIAL EDUCATION STARTING NOW!
